Gatik raises $200M to scale autonomous middle-mile trucking

Gatik’s raise underscores that specialized autonomous systems continue to attract serious capital even as robotaxis face regulatory and economic headwinds. By focusing on short haul, repeatable middle mile routes with box trucks, Gatik has carved out an AI and robotics niche that looks more tractable than general driving. The cash will fund more vehicles, more routes and more cities, effectively turning its perception, planning and control stack into logistics infrastructure.

For the AGI discussion, Gatik is interesting because it shows the value of bounded intelligence deployed at scale. These trucks are not general reasoners, but they encapsulate years of work in sensor fusion, reinforcement learning and safety engineering, all of which feed back into the broader talent and tooling pool. As capital flows into applied autonomy, it indirectly funds lower level advances in simulation, data annotation and robust control that other AI projects can reuse.

Strategically, the involvement of a sovereign wealth fund and industrial capital indicates that autonomy is being treated as long term infrastructure, not a quick flip. That changes the time horizon for experimentation and deployment.
