The NEET controversy is an early glimpse of how generative tools will be weaponized against institutions that still rely on scanned documents as ground truth. The NTA responded with forensic checks and a legal threat, but the deeper story is that any high‑stakes workflow built on PDFs and image uploads is now trivially spoofable.

For the race to AGI, this isn’t about model capability; it’s about trust in systems that gate access to education, jobs and public services. As AI becomes more powerful, regulators, schools and employers will be forced to adopt their own detection, cryptographic signing, and end‑to‑end provenance tools just to preserve the legitimacy of decisions. In India, which is trying to position itself as both an AI hub and a massive digital‑public‑goods exporter, these scandals will accelerate investment in secure exam tech and data integrity. Globally, any AI company that wants to operate in education or testing will need to prove it can help governments defend against misuse of the very tools it sells.
