Karandaaz and DTC partner on AI finance assistant

This deal is a good illustration of how agentic AI is moving into financial inclusion rather than just high‑end wealth management. Karandaaz and DTC are betting that the biggest friction in Pakistan’s digital finance stack is not core infrastructure but the user journey: people drop off because menus are confusing, language support is thin and nobody is there to answer basic questions. Embedding an AI ‘companion’ directly into mobile wallets and payment apps turns UX problems into a conversational interface and gives the ecosystem a way to personalise support without scaling human call centres.

For the race to AGI, the strategic significance is twofold. First, it expands the data and experience base for AI agents operating on top of real financial transactions in emerging markets, which are noisy, multilingual and full of edge cases. That is exactly the kind of environment where brittle systems fail and robust ones harden. Second, it points to a future in which the most important AI relationships for billions of people may not be with general chatbots but with tightly scoped financial, health or government assistants designed around local constraints and regulations. Those assistants will not be frontier models in the AGI sense, but they will put sustained pressure on labs to make tools more controllable, cheaper and easier to embed. In aggregate, that demand helps fund and justify further capability work, even if end users never touch the raw models.
