Qualcomm buying Modular is one of the clearest signs yet that the AI race is shifting from pure model performance to full‑stack control. Modular’s value isn’t chips; it’s the software layer that lets developers deploy models efficiently across heterogeneous hardware without rewriting code for every accelerator. Folding that into Qualcomm’s portfolio turns a mobile‑first chip vendor into a much more credible end‑to‑end AI infrastructure player, from phones and cars all the way into data centers.

Strategically, this is a direct shot at Nvidia’s CUDA moat.
