UK outlines new defences against frontier AI cyber risks
On October 12, 2026, the UK government announced a package of measures to use frontier AI models in cyber defence, strengthen legal protections for serious AI incidents and expand evaluations through the AI Security Institute. In a speech at Imperial College London the same day, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said Britain aims to be “one of the hardest countries in the world to attack using artificial intelligence” and confirmed continued access to powerful models for the AI Security Institute. The measures will feed into the upcoming Cyber Security and Resilience Bill and broader national security planning.
