On September 11, 2026, Defense One reported that Anthropic’s latest misuse report found Russian linked actors using its Claude models to prototype autonomous lethal drones, run hacking campaigns and scale disinformation operations. The report also described blocked attempts to use Claude for conventional and biological weapons related research and detailed how Anthropic shut down the accounts involved.
An AFP feature published by Canadian outlet TVA Nouvelles on September 11, 2026 reports that Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned while warning there is more than a 10 percent chance advanced AI could kill all humans by the end of the decade. The piece also cites Anthropic safety lead Evan Hubinger, who publicly agreed with Coxon, and notes that over 1,000 AI workers, including Anthropic’s CEO, have recently urged Washington to support a coordinated slowdown of frontier AI systems.
