Anthropic hires UK AI strategy architect Matt Clifford for global role
On September 2, 2026, the Guardian reported that Matt Clifford, who helped design the UK government’s AI strategy and advised both Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak, has joined Anthropic in a senior role. Clifford becomes managing director for international affairs, leading the company’s engagement with governments outside the United States while remaining chair of the UK’s ARIA research agency.
