Zoho launches AI-powered Classes 2.0 LMS with tutor, grading and course builder

Zoho’s Classes 2.0 release is a good example of how generative AI is quietly being threaded into existing SaaS products in emerging markets. Rather than attempting a fully autonomous ‘AI teacher’, Zoho is shipping constrained agents: a subject‑bounded tutor, grading assistance for programming, and a course‑builder that still requires human approval. That’s a pragmatic way to ease institutions and regulators into AI‑mediated education while keeping teachers in the loop.

For the AGI race, the interesting piece is distribution and localization. An LMS that supports 22 Indian languages and is free for government institutions could become the default AI‑enabled learning stack for millions of students. That creates both an opportunity and an obligation: if the underlying models are weak, biased or poorly governed, those flaws will propagate widely. Conversely, if Zoho and its model partners get this right, they’ll generate invaluable data on how AI can augment learning at scale in low‑resource environments—exactly the sort of setting where future AGI systems will be most tested.
