India’s Zen Tech unveils AI anti‑drone and laser weapon systems

Zen Tech’s new systems are one more data point in how quickly AI is bleeding into tactical military hardware: anti‑drone batteries, laser weapons, cybersecurity suites and unmanned ground vehicles are all being marketed as AI‑driven. India’s defence establishment has been explicit about wanting indigenous AI capabilities, so a domestic vendor showing integrated AI products across sensing, targeting and simulation is significant. It indicates that AI‑enabled autonomy and decision support are becoming table stakes in regional security competition, not exotic R&D projects.

These systems are still far from strategic AGI, but they shape the environment in which AGI‑class models may eventually be deployed. Militaries that get comfortable fielding AI in ISR, counter‑UAS and cyber defence will be better positioned to adopt more capable agents later. At the same time, as more live weapons systems claim to use AI, scrutiny of testing, fail‑safes and human‑in‑the‑loop guarantees will intensify. That feedback loop between real‑world deployment and safety governance is likely to influence how aggressive states are willing to be with more general, powerful models.
