Salesforce turns Slackbot into AI command center with 30+ new skills

Salesforce’s Slack move is less about another chatbot and more about where everyday workers will actually touch AI. By wiring Slackbot into meeting tools, CRMs, enterprise apps and a library of reusable AI skills, Salesforce is trying to make Slack the place where both human conversations and AI agents convene. That’s strategically smart: if AI remains something users have to visit in a separate app, it risks becoming a niche tool; if it shows up in the tool they already live in all day, it can quietly become indispensable.

The emphasis on “reusable skills” and desktop‑level context is particularly important. Those features push Slackbot from a summarizer into a semi‑agentic system that can recognize patterns, standardize workflows and act across systems using existing permissions. It’s not full autonomy, but it’s a concrete step toward office software where much of the routine orchestration is handled by AI.

For the broader AI race, this demonstrates how quickly frontier model capabilities are being repackaged into workflow‑native experiences. Salesforce is effectively staking out the collaboration layer as its beachhead against Microsoft’s Copilot in Teams and Google’s Gemini in Workspace, betting that whoever owns the daily work surface will have disproportionate influence over which models and ecosystems win.
