At the South Zone Regional Judicial Conference in Bengaluru, senior judges cautioned against over‑reliance on artificial intelligence tools in legal research and drafting, citing recent instances of fabricated or ‘hallucinated’ case citations and even bogus judgments. They stressed that while AI can help bridge the digital divide and speed up research, it cannot replace human reasoning, constitutional values or judicial discretion, and urged courts to adopt clear safeguards and verification practices.
