Spanish-language outlet Quadratín Hispano reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is in the process of acquiring AI-powered tools capable of scanning individuals’ irises from 3–4.5 meters away using an iPhone app linked to government databases. The move has sparked concerns over privacy, civil liberties and the lack of uniform federal rules for biometric surveillance, as the system could identify undocumented migrants at a distance and be deployed by federal agents without physical contact.
