Research Scientist, Prediction & Planning

Job Description

Research scientist on Waymo’s Predictive Planning team, developing ML-powered prediction and planning systems that enable the Waymo Driver to safely and efficiently navigate complex traffic scenarios, including work with foundation models and reinforcement learning.

Responsibilities

• Develop next-generation ML models for prediction and planning in autonomous driving.
• Frame open-ended driving challenges as well-defined ML problems and explore techniques including foundation models and RL.
• Train, evaluate, and iterate on large models, integrating them into production planning software.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, smooth behaviors for all road users.
• Potentially publish research at top ML and robotics venues.
