Job Description

Lead perception engineer role owning design and deployment of real‑time multi‑modal perception models (object detection, tracking, semantic segmentation) for autonomous heavy construction machines, from data pipeline through on‑machine deployment and testing on Gravis’s physical test sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of robust, low‑latency perception models for object detection, tracking, and scene understanding on autonomous excavators.
  • Design metrics and test procedures to validate performance and safety under real‑world conditions.
  • Collaborate with motion planning, controls, and UI teams to integrate perception outputs into the overall autonomy stack.
  • Run on‑site tests on construction equipment, analyze failures, and drive model and system improvements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to growing the perception group.
