xAI’s Member of Technical Staff - Reasoning role focuses on building frameworks that improve the reasoning abilities of Grok‑series models. Engineers design large‑scale distributed reinforcement learning systems, inference‑time compute techniques (e.g., tree search, planning), and environments for agents, working in a small, flat, high‑intensity team.
Responsibilities
- Build robust and scalable distributed RL systems for reasoning models
- Optimize frameworks to enable complex inference‑time reasoning, including planning and tree search
- Develop environments and harnesses for training and evaluating agents
- Collaborate closely with other members of technical staff across infrastructure, models, and product
- Contribute to research‑grade implementations that can be productized in Grok
